Vitamin D - properties

Vitamin D3, or cholecalciferol, is an organic chemical compound from the vitamin D group. Two forms of vitamin D are essential: vitamin D2 and vitamin D3. Vitamin D2 occurs naturally in plant organisms, while vitamin D3 occurs naturally in animal organisms.

Vitamin D, like vitamins A, E and K, does not dissolve in water. It is soluble in fats. Vitamin D3 is highly resistant to high temperatures and does not break down during long-term storage.

Vitamin D is delivered to the body with meals, but its primary source is its synthesis in the body - when the skin is exposed to sunlight. Its secretion depends on such factors as: time of year, time of day, cloudiness and air pollution, latitude, use of sunscreens, pigmentation, skin aging, body fat level, skin surface exposed to the sun. Our body, especially in autumn and winter, is not able to produce the right amount of vitamin D.
