The devices are used to soften water by neutralizing magnesium and calcium ions, responsible for limescale deposition on faucets, bathtubs, shower cabins, household items, etc. Softener is designed for 3 - 4 people.

The softener is factory set for water with a hardness of 300 mg/l CaCO3 (up to 17 German degrees). The manufacturer ensures the correct operation of the device with a water hardness of not more than 21 degrees on a German scale. In order for the softener to work effectively, the user should adjust the device settings to the current water parameters.

Components

The softener head is a controller and automation assembly located at the top of the device. This element is responsible for the efficient management of the work of the entire softener. The head has factory settings adapted to most applications and does not require adjustments, except for the introduction before the first start of the regeneration hour, which will best suit the user. The head automatically manages individual work cycles and regeneration.

Housing made of stable and aesthetic plastic, acts as a non-pressure tank for salt and brine. At the top of the housing there is a head. In addition, inside it there is a tank with an ion exchange bed and a float controlling the level of brine and protecting the housing against its excessive filling. An overflow valve is placed in the side wall of the housing. The housing has a large opening for replenishing salt.

The tank with the bed is a pressure device filled with ion exchange resin at the factory. It is in this element that the softening process takes place. The lifespan of the resin is determined for about 10 years. After this period, it is possible to exchange the deposit for new ones without reducing the efficiency of the device. The tank is connected to the softener head.

Bypass is an element fulfilling several important functions in the work of softeners. This element allows you to efficiently connect or disconnect the softener from your existing installation. In addition, it provides the ability to set the form of water flow from the network, i.e. by the device in softening mode or bypassing the device. Some versions of Bypasses have the ability to mix raw water with softened water, but due to the reduction in the life of the device automation, this solution is not recommended by the manufacturer.

Principles of operation

WEBER AQUA water softeners can be used for two basic purposes, i.e. for comprehensive softening of usable water in the building or for topical softening, directly in front of a device requiring water with high softness, e.g. steam generators, industrial dishwashers, etc.

In the case of comprehensive water softening in the building, the device is installed in the place of water supply to the facility. In this solution, the water flowing into the building first flows through the pre-filter removing sediments and mechanical impurities from it. Subsequently, water flows into the softener, where it is softened through a deposit in the form of an ion exchange resin. Water softening is a process in which calcium and magnesium ions, responsible for excessive water hardness, are replaced by an active resin deposit with sodium ions, whose salts are well soluble in water and are also neutral for human health. Such softened water flows into the installation, where it can be used for any purpose.

High and consistent over time efficiency is constantly supervised by an advanced control and automation system, which, after a permanently programmed time, carry out the process of regeneration of the ion exchange bed. Regeneration takes place in several stages:

• In the first one, the tank with an ion exchange bed is rinsed with water from the network. Water from the network flows through the bed, rinses it and at the same time loosens it, and then is discharged into the sewage system.
• In the second stage, brine from the salt tank is directed to the ion exchange bed. Brine flows through the deposit regenerating its ion exchange capacity, after which it is discharged into the sewage system.
• In the third stage, water from the network is supplied to the salt tank in order to replenish the brine necessary for the next regeneration. At the appropriate level of water supply, the control system, float valve and drain valve are provided.
• In the fourth stage, a small amount of water is passed through the ion exchange bed, which flushes out excess brine and stabilizes and properly arranges the bed. This water after passing through the bed is discharged into the sewage system. After this stage, the device automatically goes into operation mode.

Cyclic salt replenishment in the brine tank is required to ensure adequate efficiency. A single dose usually does not exceed 25 kilograms, and the periodicity of its replacement depends on the amount of water consumed.
