Urine is a biological material that provides important information about a person’s health and is therefore an essential part of routine screening. It is particularly valuable in the diagnosis and monitoring of urinary tract diseases and in the diagnosis of diseases affecting metabolic and systemic kidney function. This diaper is designed for screening for bacterial urinary tract infections by determination of nitrites, thanks to which it allows quick detection of urinary tract infections and helps to observe the effectiveness of treatment.

Principle and expected value:

Gram-negative bacteria present in the urine (nitrate reductase enzyme) catalyze the conversion of nitrates to nitrites in the environment and during this conversion a pink color is formed. The principle of Griess reaction, also used in urine strips, is used in a diaper that detects urinary tract infection. In an acidic environment, the nitrite in the urine reacts with p-arsanilic acid and is diazed. The resulting diazonium compound forms a pink color with dihydrochloride 1 N-(1-naphthyl)-ethylenediamine. Nitrite is not detected in normal urine.

Storage:

Store the product in a box. Make sure that the box is not exposed to direct light. It is recommended to use within one month of opening the package.

Usage:

1. Use the product after cleaning the baby's bottom to make sure no fecal residue remains, or it is best to use after bathing the baby.
2. Remove the diaper from the sealed box.
3. Put on your baby's Pine Smart diaper.
4. The pink coloration that appears after the first urination indicates a urinary tract infection.
5. If the color of the diaper changes to pink, consult your child’s health condition with your doctor as soon as possible.

Interpretation of the result:

In the presence of urine itself (in the absence of fecal residue); a pink color change visible on the outer surface of the diaper indicates that urine contains nitrites, indicating that the baby has a bacterial urinary tract infection. If you notice a pink colour on your diaper, talk to your doctor or healthcare provider as soon as possible.

The shade of pink coloring formed on the diaper does not provide information about the severity of urinary tract infection.

If the diaper does not change pink, although your baby has symptoms of urinary tract infections (loss of appetite, anxiety, change in smell and color of urine, insomnia, nausea, fever), this does not mean that your baby can not have a urinary tract infection. During this period, continue to use the diaper, observe the presence of a color change and consult a doctor about the above ailments of the baby.
