CALIBRATION

The instrument is scaled for measurements at 20ºC. Measurements can be made in the range from 10ºC to +30ºC, but it is necessary to calibrate the instrument if the measurement temperature is different from 20ºC. For calibration, take the pipette of distilled water and apply a drop to the prism (1) and lower the lid of the instrument (2).

Using the included screwdriver, adjust the calibration screw (3) until the light/shadow line with the water line (WATERLINE) overlaps.

A - Temp scale. Coolant freezing scaled at ºC ranging from 0 to -50ºC with 5ºC accuracy. It has two scales on the left for propylene-based liquids and on the right for ethylene-based liquids mainly used in Europe.

B - Temp. Washer fluid freezing scaled at ºC from 0 to -40ºC with 10ºC accuracy

C - Electrolyte density scale scaled in kilograms per litre (kg/l) ranging from 1.1 to 1.4 kg/l with an accuracy of 0.01 kg/l

COURSE OF MEASUREMENT

1- Point the instrument towards the bright light and turn the eyepiece (5) focus.

2- Using the pipettes included in the set, withdraw a small amount of the measured liquid and place one or two drops on the prism (1), lower the lid (2)

and press lightly.

3 - A light/shadow line will appear on the scale that will indicate temp. freezing or density depending on the fluid used.

4 - After reading, thoroughly clean the prism with the included cotton cloth.

ATTENTION!

•Calibration and measurements should be carried out at the same temperature. If the temperature changes rapidly, it should be done once every 30 minutes.

•After the measurement, do not clean the prism with water due to the possibility of flooding the internal optics of the instrument.

•Carefully handle the instrument. Avoid scratches on the prism. Replace in dry conditions so that there is no haze of the optics.

•Take special care when measuring electrolyte density. Battery acid is a corrosive substance. Always use pipettes and do not allow acid to come into contact with your eyes and skin!
