Aphids range in size from 2 to 5 mm, depending on the species, and different colors – white, yellow, green, black. It is not difficult to distinguish them from other plant pests, because their soft body is topped with such a pointed tail with two tubes on the sides – these are siphons with which they communicate with other individuals.

Regardless of size, any plant can be attacked by them. Some are specific to only one type of plant. An example is the black aphid. It has a black body about 2mm long. It reaches its highest activity at the turn of May and June. Different species of aphids have different life cycles. A common feature is that they spend most of the year in the form of wingless females. This means that even one aphid can quickly form a large colony. When too many insects start to develop in one place, they move to neighboring plants. Most species winter as eggs in the substrate of the host plant, but some of them remain active.

Whitefly is a parasite from the whitefly family that feeds on ornamental plants and vegetables. It is most often found on tomatoes and cucumbers. It is a difficult insect to remove, but with the use of appropriate preparations, it is possible to exterminate it. Whitefly feels best where it is dry and warm. Therefore, he likes to live in apartments and greenhouses. It appears outside between May and September.

Adult pests are white flies with a size of approx. 1,5 cm covered with floury waxy secretions. The larvae of this pest of white or yellowish pink color are oval and slightly flattened. Whiteflies feed on the underside of the leaves, where they lay eggs. You can see them with the naked eye and quickly take care of their removal.

Among the whiteflies occurring in Poland stands out greenhouse, rhododendron and vegetable whitefly. In tropical and subtropical areas, crops are attacked by whitefly (also called tobacco) very resistant to insecticides and therefore difficult to remove.

Yarn is a species of mite from the family Tetranychidae and is one of the most invasive and troublesome pests. It can attack agricultural crops, horticultural crops, as well as ornamental plants depending on the species it represents.

Yarn begins to develop in early spring from late April to May, after females, after wintering, leave their hiding places located in the recesses of the bark, under chests or plant debris. One female spider mite can lay up to 200 eggs. Immediately after folding, the eggs are transparent, after which they become pale yellow. Then, after a few days, green larvae hatch from the eggs, which within two weeks turn into adults.

The female adult spider mite is larger than the male and grows from about 0,4 mm to a maximum of 1 mm. Males are smaller and range in size from 0,3 mm to 0,4 mm. The yarn has an elongated, oval shape. Its color depends on the season – in the growing season it has a yellow-green color, and in winter it is red-orange. Its characteristic feature is that it has two large, dark spots on its back. It also has four pairs of legs and delicate, single hairs that cover its entire body.

High temperature and dry air are ideal conditions for the spider mite to begin to develop. Therefore, it multiplies the fastest during dry and warm summers, on crops under cover. Under such favorable conditions, it can reproduce very quickly and spend 4-5 generations a year.

These insects belong to the group of Junes and reach a length of up to several millimeters. It is not difficult to see them on flowers. They feed in clusters, their bodies are covered with characteristic waxy secretions, resembling shreds of cotton wool or wool. It is an ideal protection against predators and adverse external factors. They prefer a warm, humid climate, accumulate along the nerves and at the base of the leaf tails. They attack shoots and leaves, and sometimes roots.

Most often they can be found on succulents, palm trees, dracaenas, ferns, orchids, citrus and many other species of ornamental plants. They can also attack utility plants grown in greenhouses.

Woollys feed on cellular juice, and foraging secretes honey dew. This dew is an ideal environment for fungi, which is why fungal diseases are often also present with pests. Such a heavy load on the plant makes it lose the fight and languish. If you have animals, you don’t have to worry about them. For woolworms, the only host capable of providing a food source is plants.

Thrips are a small insect with a prickly-suction mouth apparatus, which can cause many problems, especially for people growing potted and balcony plants. It feeds on plant juices and their tissues, so its feeding can lead to a significant weakening of the plant and even its death. Learn how to identify thrips and how to fight them!

Thrips are a whole group of insects that feed on domestic, balcony and garden plants. Specific species of thrips attack their preferred plants, but at home, the most common is greenhouse thrips. who liked to feed on popular plants, i.e. palm trees, ficuses or ivy. These plants have gained a lot of popularity in recent years, which unfortunately put some inexperienced people in a difficult situation.

Recognition of thrips is troublesome, due to their small size. To organoleptically determine their presence, a magnifier with high magnification would be necessary. For this reason, their presence is usually determined by the damage to the plant when their attack is already underway. However, the symptoms of attacking the plant by thrips are so non-specific that it is difficult to tell whether the pests feeding on the plant are thrips or something else (e.g. bowlers).

Symptoms on the part of the plant, which may suggest the presence of thrips, are primarily discolorations and spots on the leaves, often accompanied by black dots (dried feces). In the case of flowering plants, deformation of flowers may also occur.

Powdery mildew develops in a humid environment at moderate temperatures. The mushroom covers leaves, flowers, but also stems, buds and fruits. Powdery mildew willingly attacks ornamental flowers, including roses, begonias, petunias. It also appears on the aggress and vine. It also does not save vegetables such as pumpkins, tomatoes, parsley or cucumbers and fruits (strawberries, apple trees, pears). Powdery mildew attacks even weeds. It appears on goldenrod and lanceolate grandmother.

In addition to the white coating characteristic of powdery mildew, black spots that are spores of the fungus are also visible on the plants. These spores spread very easily in powdery mildew. All it takes is a light gust of wind to transfer spores to other plants and infect them. Powdery mildew appears on plants most often at the end of summer and at the beginning of autumn. It has ideal conditions for development. Temperatures during the day range from 18°C to 24°C, and there are considerable differences between day and night temperatures. Although the fungus growing on plants allows for the yield of crops, they are low and unfit for consumption. As a result of the action of the fungus, ornamental plants wither.

According to the opinion of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the product COMPO COMPLETE FOR DISEASES AND PESTS is not subject to registration as a plant protection product under Article 2() 2 of Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009.
