What is it with arginine?

Arginine is currently very popular. It is classified as a conditionally necessary amino acid – the amount that is synthesized in the body is often insufficient, hence it must be supplied from the outside. It participates in various anabolic and catabolic transformations taking place in the human body. According to available scientific knowledge (Campbell et al., 2006), arginine is important in the synthesis of cytoplasmic and nuclear proteins, other amino acids, creatine and the urea cycle.

Urea is synthesized from arginine to allow the body to remove excess ammonia, which is unfavorable to cells. L-arginine is also classified as a glucogenic amino acid because it can be metabolized to alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) and enter a citric acid cycle. However, one of the most important roles played by L-arginine is participation in the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO). Studies clearly show that exogenously administered L-arginine promotes biological effects mediated by nitric oxide.

Important nitric oxide, or a few words about the phenomenon known as muscle pump

It is well known that L-arginine is a precursor in the biosynthesis of nitric oxide, which acts as a messenger that triggers the expansion of blood vessels and increases blood flow. The production of nitric oxide from L-arginine occurs in many different cell types, including skeletal muscle. The authors of another scientific publication on L-arginine supplementation (Wax et al., 2012) report that it is believed that the increase in nitric oxide allows for improved blood flow, which may be beneficial for people performing resistance exercises. In addition, increasing blood flow can theoretically improve exercise capacity by increasing nutrient delivery and/or removing metabolic products from exercised skeletal muscles.

AAKG, or L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate

Wax et al. They also state in their publication that L-arginine is combined with alpha-ketoglutarate to further improve exercise capacity by increasing ATP production. Alpha-ketoglutarate is a metabolite that is formed in the process that occurs in the Krebs cycle. External administration of alpha-ketoglutarate supplement, e.g. as L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate (AAKG), it can show an effect on increasing the flow of the Krebs cycle and affect the saving of glutamate in the body. And glutamate is an essential amino acid, among others. for protein anabolism.

AAKG capsules

If your training plan involves intense physical effort, then L-arginine in the form of L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate may be the perfect solution for you! Be sure to try AAKG in a convenient capsule form.
