At the heart of the M3 Ultra is a pair of real, miniature military-grade JAN6418 vacuum tubes, produced by the American company Raytheon. These are the same components that can be found in much more expensive tube designs. After years of working with the JAN6418, MUSE HiFi engineers have integrated two authentic glass tubes in the smallest possible portable decoder with a headphone amplifier for the first time. The result is a distinctive tube timbre: dense, fluid and saturated, with beautifully exposed vocals and full, spatial character of the sound.

The high-performance ES9028Q2M chip from ESS SABRE is responsible for digital-to-analog conversion, whose signal then goes to a dedicated ES9603Q amplifier, and from there to a pair of JAN6418 tubes responsible for the final gain. This combination of ESS silicon precision with the musical colour of the lamps gives an exceptionally successful balance – clean, transparent detail goes hand in hand with warmth and natural decay. Reviewers emphasize the soft, enveloping bass, vivid and emotional presentation of the midrange and the smooth, well-stretched treble that creates the impression of air and space. Full digital support is provided by the advanced USB SA9137L chip, enabling decoding of Hi-Res PCM files up to 32-bit/384 kHz and native DSD256.

Vacuum tubes are inherently sensitive to vibration, which can cause a microphone effect — annoying ringing when moving the device. M3 Ultra solves this problem using patented, three-level anti-vibration technology (Triple Anti-Vibration), operating at the level of the system, algorithm and physical structure. A fully balanced circuit, proprietary microphone effect damping algorithm and patented silicone vibration damping work together to ensure a clean background and uninterrupted tube sound in any conditions. The icing on the cake is the characteristic openwork housing "WORLD GATE" with a truly hollow structure that protects the lamps from impact, improves heat dissipation and exposes the beauty of the component itself.

Despite its compact size, the M3 Ultra has a large output power: up to 460 mW through a 3,5 mm output and 480 mW through a balanced 4,4 mm at a load of 32 Ω. This is enough to easily control demanding planar headphones and high-ohm on-ear designs, while maintaining the delicacy and detail needed for sensitive in-ear headphones (IEMs). Independent volume control, off-modem settings and wide compatibility with Apple, Android, PC and laptop devices make the M3 Ultra suitable for any situation – on the train, in a cafe or at home.
