Louis was founded in 1938 by Walter Lohmann in Hamburg. In 1946, Detlev Louis joined the company, and soon the name was changed to the name that is still in force today. Detlev Louis Motorradvertriebs GmbH. In 1946, the company employed only 4 employees, in 1960 Louis moved to a newly built store with an attached workshop at Rentzelstraße near the TV tower in Hamburg, thus opening the largest motorcycle store in Germany. In 1967, the first shipping catalogue with 24 pages in DIN A5 format appeared. The content was a small selection of functional motorcycle clothing - leather of course - and some accessories. The range of motorcycles has been expanded to include BSA, BMW and Matchless brands, and Honda has also joined this range since 1968. From 1969 to 1975, the company was the general importer of Kawasaki motorcycles in Germany. Currently, the total storage area is over 50 000 m². As many as 80 Louis stores have been built in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Louis has its own authors of brands such as Vanucci and Probiker, which are characterized by very good quality of workmanship from high quality materials.
