Common puppy (Dipsacus silvester) is a two-year-old plant of the family of bristles. It occurs commonly in Poland and other areas of Europe, as well as in West Asia and North Africa. It grows wild, its cultivation is less common, although sometimes it enriches backyard gardens as an ornament, or herbal raw material
The raw material used in supplementation are roots that are dug up in early spring or autumn, and leaves that are harvested in spring before the plant blooms. Due to the spiky stem, the puppy is often compared in appearance to milk thistle.
