Shilajit is secreted from rocks during hot weather periods in the lower Himalayas, Vindhya and other mountainous regions of Nepal, where iron is found in large quantities. It flows naturally from crevices in rocks or is formed as tar as a result of the natural decomposition of plant matter in the soil.

Shilajit consists of a compact vegetable mass of organic matter and has a bitter taste. The black variety is most often used after cleansing in complex processes.

Shilajit consists of 60-80% organic matter, 20-40% minerals and contains about 5% trace elements. It contains more than 85 natural ionic minerals, as well as fulvic acid*, humic acid and valuable secondary plant substances.

The Sanskrit word “Shilajit” also means “mountain conqueror” and “weakness destroyer.”

Shilajit is also known as “Mumijo”.
