Taurine is a non-proteinogenic amino acid found in larger amounts in the muscles, liver, brain and central nervous system. After glutamine, it is the second most important nitrogen store in the body. It strongly inhibits exercise and post-exercise (night) catabolism. Taurine increases the synthesis and secretion of anabolic hormones: GH and insulin, and reduces the synthesis of serotonin in the central nervous system, thus "deceiving" the brain about the burden of the work performed, so the body does not feel tired and is able to train longer. In addition, taurine regulates water and electrolyte balance, maintains a high concentration of calcium in the muscle cell, which ensures stronger contractions and more efficient work. Taurine also stimulates the saturation of muscle cells with nutrients (it has an insulinomimetic effect), increases the sensitivity of cells to insulin and, as a sulfur amino acid, protects cells against damage caused by "free" radicals, this is particularly visible in tissues and organs exposed to high "oxidative stress" m.in : the retina and the liver.
