Accu-Chek strip tests in combination with Accu-Chek Instant glucose meters are intended for diagnostics as part of glycemic self-monitoring or can be performed by medical staff in a medical facility. Accu-Chek Instant meets the requirements of ISO 15197:2013 – Requirements for blood glucose monitoring systems for self-monitoring in diabetic patients.
How does the bar test work? An enzyme used in a strip test reaction, FAD-dependent glucose dehydrogenase (GDH) isolated from A. oryzae converts glucose in a blood sample to gluconolactone. This reaction causes a harmless direct current, which is processed using a glucose meter to interpret the result of blood glucose measurement. The sample and environmental conditions are assessed using alternating and direct current. The results of measurements using strip tests correspond to the plasma glucose concentration according to the recommendations of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine IFCC. Therefore, the glucose meter displays values in relation to plasma glucose concentration, although whole blood is always applied to the strip test.
