The tester is used to control injectors and actuators controlled by PWM signal (variable signal fill factor). The power supply opens COMMON RAIL injectors so it will also open gasoline injectors and gas systems without any problems. When powered from a 12V battery, the output current per injector can reach 20A in pulse. The output wires are terminated with small crocodiles. The principle of operation of the generator is typical for powering injectors. On one tip there is a constant voltage of +12v, the other tip is shorted during the pulse to the mass. The final power transistor is mounted on a large heat sink inside the housing.

Function 1 - Pulse generator

In this function, pulses opening the injector are generated all the time. The time of the generated signal is regulated with a resolution of 0,2 ms. (range of changes 0,2 ms – 90 ms). Frequency changed in the range of 2-150 Hz with a resolution of 1 Hz). The injection time adjustment range up to 90ms is of course well above the need to open the injectors, but it will be useful for testing other actuators in the car. The LCD screen displays: pulse time, pulse fill factor, pulse frequency.

Function 2 - Single pulse

Only one pulse will be generated in the function when the button is pressed. We're just regulating the pulse time.

Function 3 - Long pulse

This function is used when we want to open the injector for a long time, e.g. 2 seconds. This is used e.g. when measuring the stroke of the injector spire. To open the injector, you need a dozen Ampere current. Such a large current flowing for a few seconds could cause the injector coil to burn. To maintain an already open injector, less current is needed than for its initial opening. The backup current is determined using the PWM signal. When we set the PWM signal 20%, the backup current will be 5 times less than when the injector is opened

Function 4 - PWM power supply

In the function "PWM power supply" on the output wires is a PWM signal with a variable pulse width of 1-99%, with a frequency of 500Hz. This is equivalent to an adjustable output voltage in the range of 0V-12V. You can then smoothly open various types of actuators (setters, valves, etc.).

Function 5 - External triggering

In this function, only the pulse time can be changed, and the injection occurs only when an external trigger signal is applied to the control socket.

Function 6 - Pulse indicator

In this function, we can measure the duration of electrical impulses. After the signal is applied to the measuring socket, the duration of the high and low levels will appear on the screen. The input socket has an input resistance of 100 kohm, there is no fear that you can damage any sensor during measurement.

An example of the use of a pulse meter.

The engine does not want to start, and we want to check whether the engine controller gives impulses to the injector. We plug the measuring cable into the injector control cable. We'll reset the indications on the screen. The screen only says “5v= 0v=”. We're turning on the ignition. It is enough for the engine to make two turns. If during this time a control signal is fed to the injector, a measurement result will appear on the screen. This will mean that there is a control pulse on the injector.
