CHECKING THE EXACT DIAMETER OF THE SEAT POST

The fastest way to know the exact diameter of the seat post is to read the engraving or factory print, which is located on its lower part (you need to pull the bracket out of the frame). You will see there the value given in millimeters (e.g. 27,2 mm, 30,9 mm, 31,6 mm).

If the marking has aged, you can precisely determine the diameter without a caliper in several other ways:

1. Mathematical method (circuit measurement)

Because the circumference and diameter are closely related by the formula:

Diameter (D) = Circuit (L) / π (3,14), measuring the circuit will give you a clear answer.

1. Wrap the seat post with a narrow strip of paper or a thin thread in a place that is not scratched.
2. Check the exact length of one full circumference (the place where the paper overlaps its beginning).
3. Measure the section with a ruler to the nearest millimeter.
4. Calculate the result according to the following standard size cheat sheet:

• Clamp 31,8 mm = seat post 27,2 mm
• Clamp 34,9 mm / 35,0 mm = seat post 30,9 mm or 31,6 mm

3. Template made of cardboard

Cut in a rigid carton the perfect square notch with a standard diameter width (e.g. exactly 27,2 mm or 31,6 mm). Slip the seat post into the notch. The differences between the sizes of the seatposts are large enough that you will immediately notice which template fits perfectly without slack.

4. Online Specification

If the bike has factory parts, enter the exact model of the bike and the year of manufacture in the search engine (e.g. "Kross Hexagon 5.0 2023 specification"). Manufacturers always specify the diameter of the saddle bracket in the component section ("Saddle Support" or "seatpost").
