Effects of R-alpha lipoic acid (R-ALA)

Alpha lipoic acid is a naturally occurring fatty acid produced by our cells. It is formed in the mitochondria, where it helps enzymes convert nutrients into energy. Alpha-lipoic acid is also an antioxidant, meaning it neutralizes harmful compounds called free radicals that damage cells at the genetic level.

The most desirable form of alpha lipoic acid is the version with isolated R isomers of ALA due to its much higher activity and bioavailability.
