Destination
Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 tires are winter tires designed to be mounted on the wheels of passenger cars. The tyre manufacturer Alpin 5 has placed emphasis on ensuring the best possible driving performance on winter roads.
Technology
The Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 winter car tyres are designed to provide the best possible driving performance on winter roads. Engineers have designed a rubber compound composition that provides adequate flexibility on winter roads. This is the basis for the tires to maintain a short braking distance, and the tread is in good contact with the road surface. The rubber compound is lighter, which reduces rolling resistance. As a result, the car uses less fuel while driving. Engineers have developed a special directional tread pattern that was designed for driving on dry, wet and snowy roads in winter conditions. A special additional rubber compound under the tread is also used, which is designed to strengthen the tire and protect it from accelerated wear. The effect of velvety appearance of tires on the sides was also used.
Tread
The Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 winter car tires have a directional symmetrical tread. There are radial grooves on the shoulders leading to a central groove on the front of the tyre. A number of lamellas were also used.
Manufacturer
Michelin is one of the largest and most well-known manufacturers of car tires in the world. The Michelin brand is also known for its maps and guides. The company was founded in 1889 by two brothers. At the beginning of its activity, it produced tires for horse carriages. In 1891, the Michelin brothers developed the world’s first replaceable bicycle tyre with an inner tube. Then a pneumatic tire for carriages was developed, and several years later – for the first cars. In 1913, the Michelin brothers created a replacement car wheel. In 1949, Michelin engineers developed the world’s first radial tyre. In 1990, Michelin surprised the world by developing the first tyre with low rolling resistance. Currently, the company has several dozen plants producing tires around the world. In addition to car tyres, Michelin produces tyres for trucks, agricultural vehicles, motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles.
