Classic folding knife Opinel in size No.9 with stainless steel blade Sandvik 12C27 and traditional handle made of beech wood. Blade 90 mm length, thickness 1,68 mm; ring Virobloc locks the blade both in the open position (before closing on the finger) and closed (before opening in the pocket). Handle made of beech wood impregnated for increased moisture resistance - classic orange-yellow color of French beech. Mechanism: articulated axis made of two steel rivets, blade blocked with Virobloc ring - by turning the ring you can lock the blade in the open position (for safe operation) or closed (for safe transport in the pocket). A brilliant patent from 1955.

⚖ Opinel No.9 vs. No.8 and No.10

Opinel numbers correspond to the length of the blade. No.8 (85 mm blade, 41 g weight) - the most popular, "classic" EDC size. No.9 (90 mm, 45 g) - slightly larger, better for woodworking and camping. No.10 (100 mm, 50 g) - even larger, at the limit of pocket size. Choosing No.9 is a choice of "a little bigger than a classic" - more room for a grip, a longer cutting mark, still light to wear.

🧼 Sharpening and care

Sandvik 12C27 sharpens great on water stones 1000-3000 grit, on Lansky guides, on a ceramic kitchen stalk. After working in a wet environment, dry the blade. Do not wash in the dishwasher - wooden handle does not tolerate high temperatures. After many years of use, wood may require impregnation with linseed or specialty oil (Tru-Oil, Bee Wax). Virobloc ring clean from dust compress with an ark or brush - dust stops rotation.
