Full-frame image sensor in BSI technology with a resolution of 24,2 MP

The Exmor R™ full-frame CMOS image sensor with a resolution of 24,2 MP is made in BSI technology and has a design without microlens spacing, thanks to which it provides excellent sensitivity and great dynamic range. Twice as fast data reading is possible thanks to copper wires and a large-scale integration system.

Fully improved processing system

Combining a next-generation image processing system with a new image sensor means up to 1,5 degrees difference in image quality. Wide ISO sensitivity range up to ISO 51200 and dynamic range with up to approx. 15 degrees at low sensitivity settings. Improved detail reproduction and zoned noise reduction suppress interference and maintain high image resolution. Color reproduction, particularly of skin and nature, has been dramatically improved. The α7 III also supports 14-bit RAW output format, even in silent/serial shooting mode.

Speed, reliability and wide range of AF system operation

Improved image processing and AF algorithms from the α9 camera optimized for the α7 III improve tracking speed, precision and efficiency. 693 phase-detection AF points and 425 contrast-detection AF points provide broad coverage of the image area. Twice the speed of the AF system and more precise AF tracking allow you to stay sharp on fast and unpredictable moving objects. In addition, the α7 III reliably focuses at EV-3 brightness.

AF with phase detection in the focal plane supports A-mount lenses

Phase-detection AF works even when the Type-A lens is mounted to the α7 III model using an LA-EA5 or LA-EA3 adapter. The AF system with 693 phase detection AF points in the focal plane provides wide image coverage, fast operation and extremely efficient tracking.

Always remember about focus

Eye AF now supports AF-C mode, which increases precision and significantly improves the quality of portrait photography. The increased speed of the AF system makes it easier for moving people to take portraits, even if they are not looking towards the camera, and part of the person’s face is in twilight. The α7 III allows you to use Eye AF in A-mount lenses mounted with an adapter.

AF system switching button and multifunction switch

The new AF system on button activates autofocus without the sequence of pressing the shutter button halfway through, so you can focus on selecting the right shutter release moment to capture the shot instantly. The multifunction switch allows you to quickly and efficiently shift the focus area. You can intuitively select and move the focus field so you don’t miss an opportunity to capture moving objects.

Extremely easy to use AF mechanism

The AF tracking sensitivity when taking photos can be adjusted in five degrees to keep focus on objects going beyond the sharpening area. Areas and AF points remain unchanged or change when switching between vertical and horizontal positions, depending on the situation. Registration of AF areas allows you to remember frequently used AF point settings and assign them to selected buttons, which will allow them to be turned on quickly and conveniently.

Max. 10 class /s with AF/AE tracking enabled

With the new shutter and improved image processing system, the α7 III can take continuous shots at 10 fps. /s with AF/AE tracking enabled (up to 8 fps. /s with minimal continuous display delay with live view), ensuring stability when shooting even extremely active subjects. In one series, you can capture up to about 177 JPEG images (standard setting) in full resolution, 89 compressed RAW photos or 40 uncompressed RAW photos. Electronic shutter enables quiet, vibration-free wildlife photography. It also works well in other situations where even a small amount of noise can ruin the chance of getting the perfect shot.

Touch LCD screen

The LCD screen type 3,0 with 922 000 points allows touch operation and viewing bright, clear and detailed images, even outdoors. Use the touch focus feature to quickly focus on the selected point, and the touch panel to move the focus frame with your finger, checking the image in the viewfinder. The LCD screen tilts up to 107° and down to 41°, allowing you to comfortably hold your camera and check images.
