What do microns in filter cartridges mean?

Mikron, also known as a micrometer, is a unit of length equal to one millionth of a meter (1 µm = 0,000001 m). In the context of filtration, the value of microns refers to the pore size in the filter material, which determines what molecules can penetrate it. The lower the number of microns, the smaller the impurities are able to stop the filter, which translates into more effective filtration.

What do specific micron values in filters mean?
