Compared with roller type membranes (e.g. Reverse osmosis), capillary membranes have the shape of a tube with a pore diameter of approx. 1 micron with porous walls. Water filtration is carried out through the walls of these micro-tubes.

The removal of such particles, including colloidal iron particles, allows to obtain water with the highest degree of transparency.

Polypropylene cartridges or carbon cartridges with a pore diameter of less than 0,7 to 0,8 microns are virtually unavailable. Therefore, they are not able to effectively stop bacteria. The size of bacteria is on average 0,5 to 5 microns. E.g. E. Coli is 0,3 to 1 micron per 1 to 6 microns, Staphylococcus aureus (staphylococcus aureus) is 0,5 to 1 micron in diameter.
