How to Check if a Mask Fits Tightly and Seals Properly
- Grasp the mask with both hands by the frame and pull the strap away (do not put the strap on your head when checking the mask's seal).
- Place the mask firmly against your face and adjust it for a comfortable fit. The skirt should lie flat against your skin without folding anywhere.
- Inhale through your nose to create suction, then try to pull the mask away from your face. Caution: If you exhale through your nose into the mask...
If the mask comes away from your face easily, it means this is not the right model for your face shape.
If you had to use some force to pull the mask away from your face, it means it is well-fitted for a tight seal.
What Else to Check for Mask Fit?
Once the mask seals tightly to your face, check for comfort. Pay special attention to these areas to ensure you don't feel discomfort:
- Above the nose, along the eyebrows.
- Sides of the nose.
- Under the nose.
- Nasolabial folds (smile lines).
IMPORTANT! Never overtighten the mask strap!
The strap should be tightened just enough for a comfortable fit. A mask that is too loose may detach from your face while swimming due to water pressure. A mask that is too tight will be uncomfortable and may leak because the skirt will fold outwards. Additionally, excessive and prolonged pressure on the buckles will shorten their lifespan.
