Escada is a brand founded in Munich in 1978 by the married couple Wolfgang and Margareth Ley. It owes its name to the champion among racing horses, on which the pair bet and won. The company quickly distinguished itself with its designs – characteristic creations presenting unusual combinations of colors and patterns. During its international expansion, Escada went public in 1986. In 1994, the company launched the Sport Escada label, created its own collection of accessories, including bags and shoes. In 2007, artist Stefan Szczęsny created a new collection of Escada in Saint-Tropez, France. Currently, Escada operates in about 60 countries, and its main markets are North America, Europe and Asia. On the catwalks, Escada’s creations were presented by m.in.: Laetitia Casta, Cindy Crawford, Tyra Banks, Carla Bruni, Naomi Campbell or Liya Kebede.
