The PaloAltoNetworks PA-200 series is designed to protect local branches in the corporate network. Like the more powerful models, the PA-200 provides firewall protection, threat detection and management. PAN-OS system is installed on the device (the same as on other PA models), security functions are implemented based on: App-ID, User-ID and Content-ID. The PA-200 has a dual-core CPU for data bus and control bus separation; it also comes with 4 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports plus one management port and USB connection. Noteworthy is the low power (40W) and quiet operation.

Despite its small size, the PA-200 is able to operate in firewall mode with a bandwidth of 100 Mbps, while in Threat Prevention mode - 50 Mbps; it supports up to 64 thousand parallel sessions and 25 VPN tunnels. The security policy can use: 3 virtual routers, 10 security zones and 250 rules. Appliance can work in modes: L2, L3, Tap, Virtual Wire.
