The WS-X6904-40G-2T provides 4-port 40 Gigabit Ethernet fiber connectivity. Each port can accept a 40 Gigabit Ethernet C Form-Factor Pluggable (CFP) optical module or be converted to four 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports using FourX adapter technology. This allows customers to deploy 10 Gigabit Ethernet for current needs and be ready to upgrade to 40 Gigabit Ethernet without disruption. The module is primarily for campus, data center, and service provider networks, as well as for high-density 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 40 Gigabit Ethernet transport in the core. The WS-X6904-40G-2T is compatible only with Supervisor Engine 2T. It supports two types of CFP optics: CFP-40G-LR4 for up to 10 km over single-mode fiber, and CFP-40G-SR4 for up to 100 m over OM3 multimode fiber. It also supports Virtual Switch Link (VSL) on all ports.
