PLANET GS-6311-48P6X is a brand new managed Layer 3 gigabit switch with 10 Gbps uplink support for different types of web applications and flexible deployment. It is equipped with 48 10/100/1000BASE-T copper ports supporting the 802.3at PoE+ injector function, a total PoE power budget of up to 600W and 6 additional 1G/10GBASE-X SFP+ fiber optic ports, which are flexibly designed to increase the connection distance. It provides a fast, secure and cost-effective Power over Ethernet networking solution for IP security surveillance for small businesses and enterprises.

The GS-6311-48P6X delivers high performance, Layer 3 static routing, RIP (Routing Information Protocol) and OSPF (Open Shortest Path First). With 10 Gbps interfaces and a 216 Gbps switching structure, the GS-6311-48P6X can handle very large amounts of data in a secure topology that connects to an enterprise backbone network or high-capacity servers. Powerful multicast routing and network security features make the GS-6311-48P6X provide effective data traffic control for ISPs and enterprise VoIP, video streaming and multicast applications.

When the PD device stops working and responding, the GS-6311-48P6X will resume powering the PoE port and get the PD back up and running. The six SFP+ ports built into the GS-6311-48P6X boast a high-performance switch architecture that is capable of providing non-blocking switch structure and bandwidth up to 216 Gbps, greatly simplifying LAN upgrade tasks to meet growing bandwidth requirements. Each SFP+ port supports Dual-Speed, 10GBASE-SR/LR or 1000BASE-SX/LX, which means that an administrator can now flexibly select the appropriate SFP/SFP+ transceiver depending on the transmission distance or transmission speed required for efficient network expansion.

Redundant ring, fast recovery for critical network applications

The GS-6311-48P6X supports redundant ring technology and has a strong, fast self-healing capability to prevent interruptions and external intrusions. It includes advanced ITU-T G.8032 ERPS (Ethernet Ring Protection Switching) technology and Spanning Tree Protocol (802.1s MSTP) in the client network to increase system reliability and runtime in harsh environments. On some simple Ring networks, the recovery time may be less than 10 ms to quickly restore the network to normal operation.

Support for Layer 3 routing

The GS-6311-48P6X enables an administrator to conveniently increase network performance by manually configuring Layer 3 static routing, automatic RIP (Routing Information Protocol) or Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) configuration.

• The RIP protocol can use the number of hops as a routing metric and prevent routing loops by implementing a limit on the number of hops allowed in the path from source to destination.
• OSPF is an internal dynamic routing protocol for a standalone system based on the state of the link. The protocol creates a database for the link state by exchanging link states between Layer 3 switches, and then uses the Shortest Path First algorithm to generate a route table based on that database.

Strong multicast

The GS-6311-48P6X supports multiple multicast functions. In Layer 2 it has IPv4 IGMPv1/v2/v3 snooping and IPv6 MLD v1/v2 snooping functions. In multicast protocols, Layer 3 supports IGMPv1/v2/v3. With Multicast VLAN Register (MVR), receiver/multicast broadcaster control and detection of illegal multicast sources, the GS-6311-48P6X is perfect for any robust network.

The GS-6311-48P6X provides IPv6 management and secure enterprise-level features such as SSH, ACL, WRR and RADIUS authentication. The GS-6311-48P6X can be programmed for basic switch management functions such as port speed configuration, port aggregation, VLAN, Multiple Spanning Tree protocol, bandwidth control and IGMP snooping. The switch provides VLAN functions with 802.1Q, Q-in-Q, voice VLAN and GVRP protocol tags. Supporting port aggregation, the GS-6311-48P6X enables high-speed trunking combined with multiple ports. The GS-6311-48P6X offers a comprehensive list of access controls (ACLs) from Layer 2 to Layer 4 to enforce security at the network edge. It can be used to restrict network access by rejecting packets based on source and destination IP addresses, TCP/UDP ports, or defined common network applications. The protection mechanism also includes port-based 802.1x user and device authentication, MAC and Web-based, which can be deployed with RADIUS to ensure port-level security and block illegal users.

The GS-6311-48P6X also provides DHCP Snooping, IP Source Guard and Dynamic ARP Inspection features that prevent IP snooping attacks and reject ARP packets with an invalid MAC address. Network administrators can now build highly secure enterprise networks with much less time and effort than before.
