Weight of shading mesh - degree of shading

The weight of the shading grid and the degree of shading are some of the most important parameters of the mesh, which are very often misunderstood by customers and manipulated by sellers in order to achieve the appropriate marketing effect. Below we explain what these parameters mean and how they affect the application and quality of shading mesh.

1. Grammage - the most important parameter of the grid. What does it mean?

The weight of shading nets is the most important parameter that every customer can check in case of doubt using the usual weight by cutting off the appropriate piece of material. This is nothing more than the weight of a given material with an area of one square meter. The weight of shading nets is expressed in grams per square meter (g/m2).

An example. 'Grammage 180g/m2' means that a net with a height of 1m and a length of 1m should weigh 180g

The weight determines the density of the grid to the greatest extent. In short, it can be assumed that the higher the weight, the denser the mesh is and will provide us with a greater degree of shading / limitation of visibility.

2. Degree of shading - what determines?

The degree of shading is a contractual parameter adopted to determine how much the mesh mounted on the fence limits visibility. It is expressed in percentages, e.g. 60% / 75% / 90% / 95%. The higher the percentage of shading of the mesh, the more we will limit visibility.

The degree of shading is directly determined by the density of the grid and thus the weight of the grid. The greater the weight, the more we can assume that the degree of shading will be greater. The method of making the mesh in the production process is also important, but most often the weight parameter directly determines the degree of shading.

3. Overstate the degree of shading - check the grid weight.

A very common phenomenon in recent years is the artificial overestimation of the shading degree parameter by sellers by giving its high percentage value at low grammage grids or the total omission of weight in the grid specification. Below we present what weights of material should correspond to the appropriate degrees of shading according to our many years of experience and customer opinions.

95% - mesh with a weight of 180-220g /m2

90% - mesh with a weight of 130-140g /m2

75% - mesh with a weight of 75-80g/m2

60% - mesh with a weight of 60-70g/m2

4. Increase the weight of the grid - check the weight of the grid after purchase.

Another method of overstating parameters is to give the wrong grid weight, which is extremely difficult for a standard customer to determine at first glance. In case of doubts regarding the degree of shading and weight of we recommend weighing the net after receiving the shipment. The weight of the grid should be due to its dimensions and weight according to the multiplication formula of both dimensions and the weight of the grid:

➡ length x height x weight = net weight given in grams

An example based on a 1,5m x 25m mesh with a weight of 180g:

1. multiply the length and height of the grid to obtain the number of square meters: 1,5x25 = 37,5m2

2. multiply the result by the weight of the grid, obtaining the weight of the grid in grams, i.e. 37,5 x 180 = 6750g

3. Dividing the result from the second step by a thousand (1kg=1000g) we get the approximate weight of the grid roll: 6750g/1000 = 6,75kg

In this way, it is easy to check whether the declared grid weight is correct.

In the absence of a sufficiently large weight, you can cut a piece of mesh 100cm x 100cm (1m2) and weigh it on a lighter weight. Such a section should weigh as much as the declared weight +/- 5%

The shading mesh has reinforced edges with a thicker and densely woven layer of material. In addition, there are special mounting holes on the edges of the mesh, thanks to which its installation is very simple and quick.

We suggest fixing the shading mesh with clamps. This is the easiest and fastest way to mount to almost any surface.

Due to the numerous opinions and suggestions of customers regarding the insufficient strength of standard 2,5x100mm bands (especially after the last strong winds), we decided to join the set with a mesh band stronger in the 4 mm x 150 mm version.
