The classic glass thermometer is the most basic diagnostic tool for accurate measurement of body temperature at home.
Classic mercury-free thermometers measure body temperature in the range of 35,5-42 °C to one decimal place. The measurement time with a traditional thermometer is 8 minutes. The test can be carried out under the armpit, in the mouth or in the anus – where we get the most accurate result.
Modern mercury-free thermometers are filled with a mixture of liquid metals such as gallium, indium, tin and zinc alloy. Gal is a metal that freezes at room temperature, which causes difficulties in shaking the thermometer, so it is recommended to carry out this action immediately after reading the measurement results.
Given the glass construction of the device, measuring the temperature in children with a traditional thermometer should always be under the control of adults. After measuring in the anus, it is also necessary to thoroughly disinfect the thermometer.
