In the case of this steel variety, its hardenability is increased by the use of chromium and vanadium as alloying additives. The use of a combination of these two elements can also produce synergistic effects that have not yet been comprehensively defined.
Chromium guarantees the resistance of steel to corrosion, oxidation, abrasion and high strength at high temperature. The addition of vanadium inhibits the growth of grains during heat treatment, while increasing the ductility of both hardened and tempered forms.
