How is the performance of print cartridges measured?

Since 2006, leading manufacturers of printing equipment together with the ISO certification organization have developed a common unified system for measuring the performance of laser and inkjet printing cartridges. The developed ISO 19752, ISO 19798, ISO 24711 and ISO 24712 standards precisely define the test conditions and methodology for performance testing. Due to the fact that the ISO performance test is carried out under strictly controlled conditions, the user has little chance to reproduce the same conditions and operating parameters required by the ISO measurement standard in everyday use of the printer.

As a result of everyday work, the actual efficiency of the purchased cartridge may differ significantly from the one declared by the manufacturer. Factors such as page coverage, print quality settings, ink head cleaning, media type, ambient conditions, double-sided printing can result in much higher consumption of ink cartridge or laser dye charge.
