Gymnema sylvestre is a plant well known in Ayurvedic medicine. Also called gummy which in Hindi means “sugar destroyer”. It contains gymnemic acids among its components, known for their antidiabetic properties.

Gymnema severely reduces the sweet taste of consumed foods with sugar content; blocks sweet receptors in taste buds; reduces the desire to eat sugar; suppresses appetite (1). It supports weight control by maintaining a limited healthy level of appetite and limiting the caloric value of food consumed. It supports the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels. By blocking alpha-glucosidase, it inhibits the breakdown of complex sugars into simple sugars in the gastrointestinal tract, thereby limiting their absorption (2).
