Gluing the protective strip is a task that even a beginner can cope with. Just read this manual carefully, and for more certain – watch our video on YouTube.
Step by step instructions:
- Superficial preparation. This will ensure good adhesive adhesion.
- Determination of gluing sites. Use painter's tape to draw lines for sticking the strip. Make sure the tape adheres well and leaves no traces of glue.
- Preparation of the protective strip. Determine where the strips will be placed, and cut the material to the appropriate length.
- Applying glue. For the best effect, it is recommended to apply glue in two layers. First, apply the first thin layer of PU-312 glue to both surfaces (pontoon and inner side of the strip) and let it dry for 10 to 15 minutes. Then apply a second coat of glue and let it dry again for 10 to 15 minutes. This process allows for complete evaporation of aсеton, which increases the thermal resistance of the adhesive.
- Thermal activation of the adhesive. Thermal activation should be carried out only after the adhesive has dried completely on both surfaces. Heat the adhesive to 60 to 70 °C, heating the surfaces from the adhesive side. You can use an industrial heat gun or a regular hair dryer for this. If you use a dryer, keep it closer to the surface and heat it a little longer – you will also achieve the desired effect.
- Gluing the slat. Apply a heated protective strip to the surface of the pontoon. Use a pressure roller to accurately press down on the strip and remove any air bubbles. For harder-to-reach places, you can use a spatula.
- Glue hardening. Leave the glue to cure completely for 24 hours.
