Industrial switches are an indispensable device active in every network structure – from automation and SCADA systems, through cable TV networks, to distributed IoT installations and monitoring. The Lanberg series of lightweight industrial switches are designed for demanding work environments: metal housing, passive cooling and operating parameters allow stable operation in a wide range of ambient temperatures. The key advantages of this line are high PoE power (PoE+ / PoE++), redundant power supply (possibility of connecting 2 power sources), DIN rail mounting, VLAN and EXTEND function, automatic MDI/MDI-X, Flow control, intelligent PoE port disconnection function and MAC auto-learning.

In practice, it is a network switch created for distributed infrastructure: industry, street lighting infrastructure, external CCTV monitoring, alarm systems and internal and external installations, where both Ethernet data transmission and PoE power supply of end devices (cameras, recorders, access points, controllers, sensors) count – often with higher power consumption.

This switch is equipped with ports for installation, where both power and high-speed gigabit count:

• 8 Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 ports with PoE (1 Gbps) for end devices; including 4 PoE++ BT ports (max 90 W) and other PoE ports in 802.3af/802.3at standards.
• 2 uplink ports in the form of SFP 1000BASE-X slots – support fiber optic and Ethernet modules; they are dedicated to the exchange of traffic between network segments and to the construction of connections over longer distances (the selection of parameters depends on the SFP module used).

Lanberg gigabit Ethernet switches with PoE++ technology

PoE, PoE+ and PoE++ technology enables both data and power supply to devices with one Ethernet cable, without additional electrical infrastructure at the camera or AP point. The IEEE 802.3af standard provides up to 15,4 W per port, IEEE 802.3at (PoE+) raises this limit to 30 W, and IEEE 802.3bt (PoE++ / 4PPoE Type 4) can deliver up to up to 90 W per port – which opens the way to power 4K cameras with heaters, IR illuminators or higher automation elements.

In the series models, the PoE power budget is 90 W or 120 W (depending on the variant), which facilitates planning the delivery of power to the devices together, while maintaining safe energy reserves. The attention to component quality ensures that total real power is maintained for endpoint devices where the network is expected to operate stably 24/7.

VLAN and EXTEND functions

VLAN in switches of this type is mainly used as a practical function of separation of traffic / ports between each other, while maintaining communication with the recorder or router on the uplink port). This is a simple way to reduce the “spillage” of broadcasts and improve security in distributed installations.

EXTEND mode has been introduced for installations where you need to ensure operation over a longer distance – at the expense of speed. In practice, in Extend mode, you can reach up to 250m (on one section of cable) with a limitation of the port speed to approx. 10 Mb/s – ideal for monitoring, where distance is more important than maximum transfer.

Unmanaged switch that knows how to disconnect devices

When there is a temporary power jump in the installation (e.g. Starting the illuminator / heating in the cameras), and when the available PoE budget of the PoE power supply for all receivers is exceeded, the switch will be able to disconnect the ports in a controlled way: the port with the highest numerical marking will be disconnected, then another – until it returns to the safe energy limit. This allows you to consciously set priorities (which is always supposed to work) and treat the rest as less critical.

Smart switches with SFP support

Lightweight industrial Lanberg switches support cooperation with various types of optical fiber thanks to slots for SFP modules. Optical transmission parameters (range, fiber type, wavelength) depend on the model used in the selection of uplink to the cabinet, mast or other node. The device also supports automatic MDI/MDI-X, so it does not require patch cables, and the Ethernet port automatically negotiates the speed and mode of data transmission.

Unmanaged PoE switch with redundant power supply

Redundant power supply means double supply of energy to the switch (two independent tracks). In the event of failure of one power source, the device automatically switches to another – without the user’s participation and turning off critical PoE ports. It is a simple and very effective method of increasing network stability in industry and outdoors.

Easy installation in RACK cabinets on DIN rail

This is an unmanaged plug & play switch – you connect the power supply and cable, and the device selects the connection parameters itself. MDI/MDI-X auto-detection detects the cable used and eliminates the need for patchwork. In key systems, reliable packet transmission counts – that’s why Ethernet networks commonly use the store-and-forward method with CRC checking before passing the frame on, which limits error propagation.

A huge advantage is the installation on the DIN rail: you can easily install the device in the automation cabinet, and when necessary – also in rack environments (e.g. on a shelf or using integration accessories such as mounting ears for cabinets 19). This gives you the flexibility to deploy the switch both inside and outside RACK cabinets.

Metal housing ensures durability and operation in a wide temperature range

The robust metal housing increases mechanical resistance, while passive cooling supports continuous reliability. The recommended operating ambient temperature is from -25 to 65 °C, with humidity 10 to 90%. Although the housing itself is not water- and dustproof, in the appropriate can / cabinet switch will work in demanding conditions: halls, production plants, monitoring nodes, street cabinets. An additional protection is 6 kV surge protection, important in external installations.
