They are made of high-quality tube-shaped steel with a sharpened working edge.
When hit with a hammer, the sharpened edge applied to the material cuts a hole in it.
The hole on the side of the cutter is used to remove fragments of the cut material.
The surface of the cutters is protected against corrosion in the blackening process and cross-moletized to improve the handle.
