📚 GSM Guide — Choose the weight for the task

Microfiber weight (GSM) is the most important parameter that you need to pay attention to. It informs about the density of fibers, fluffiness and absorbency of the towel.

• 200-300 GSM — glass towels, ceramic coatings, applicators. They are characterized by a tight weave, do not leave lint and dry very quickly.
• 300-450 GSM — universal detailing towels, wax reaching, interior cleaning. Towels for everyday use with the widest use.
• 450-700 GSM — premium detailing towels for waxes, sealants and finishing works. Fluffy enough to absorb excess product, and dense enough to retain its shape.
• 700-1500+ GSM — only towels for drying. Above 700 GSM, the towel is designed to collect water, not cosmetic products.

Higher GSM doesn’t always mean better! A towel with a weight of 1500 GSM used to reach the wax is an exaggeration – it is too fluffy, work before it is slow, and you will waste a lot of cosmetic that will soak into it. Always choose the weight for the task at hand. Leave heavy towels to dry the varnish after washing, and the lighter ones (~350 GSM) to the rest.

🧼 How to make microfiber last more than 100 washes?

Cheap microfibers from the market are suitable to throw away after 5-10 washes. Premium microfiber – such as Getar Detailing – will last over 100 of them. The difference is not only the quality of production, but also the way you care for it!

1. Assign colors to zones. Reserve specific colors of towels for specific zones: varnish, glass, wheels and interior. Transferring dirt from tires to varnish with the same towel is a guarantee of permanent scratches (so-called. swirli). If necessary, mark the tags with a marker.
2. Wash always separately from cotton. Cotton loses microfibers that get tangled in microfiber and drastically destroy its absorbency. Wash microfibers in a separate batch – never with cotton towels, jeans or workshop rags.
3. Laundry detergent only – NO softening liquids. The softener wraps the microfiber fibers and irretrievably destroys their absorbency. Bleaches that destroy the structure of polyester are also prohibited. Use a clean, unscented washing liquid or specialized preparations (so-called. wash) for microfibers.
4. Cold or hot water, gentle drying. Hot water and high temperature drying simply melt the microfiber and permanently flatten its fibers. Wash in cool or warm water (e.g. 30-40°C). Dry naturally in the air or in a tumble dryer only at the lowest temperature (max 20 minutes).
5. Withdraw from use when fraying. Even the best hem towels wear out at the seams over time. When you notice fraying, make it a wheel towel, engine compartment or workshop rag. Do not use it on paint anymore.
6. Wash before first use. The new microfibers are covered with protective chemicals after production. Wash the towel before the first use to unlock its 100% absorbency from day one.
