✔ Comparison of bioavailability of different forms of magnesium (citrate, amino acid chelate, oxide):

A study conducted by Walker A.F., Marakis G., Christie S. and Byng M. compared the relative bioavailability of three magnesium preparations: citrate, amino acid chelate and oxide, with a daily dose of 300 mg of elemental Mg in 46 healthy subjects. The study was randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled in parallel groups for 60 days. Urine, blood and saliva samples were collected at baseline, 24 hours after the first magnesium supplementation ("acute" supplementation) and after 60 days of daily magnesium intake ("chronic" supplementation). The results showed that supplementation of organic forms of magnesium (citrate and amino acid chelate) showed greater absorption after 60 days than magnesium oxide (MgO), which was assessed by 24-hour urinary magnesium excretion. This effect can be explained by the better solubility of organic magnesium compounds.

Magnesium citrate led to the largest increase in serum magnesium concentration, compared to other methods, after both acute and chronic supplementation. Magnesium oxide supplementation did not cause any differences compared to placebo, which may be due to its osmotic effect increasing stool volume and intestinal peristalsis, resulting in a decrease in the full extent of absorption.

Vitamin B6 is needed to maintain a healthy hormonal balance. Vitamin B6 has been found to lower blood estrogen levels. On this basis, it can be concluded that this is an important feature in the treatment of premenstrual syndrome, especially irritability, depression, flatulence, breast swelling and acne. Pyridoxine is needed for the proper functioning of the nervous system, it is involved in the production of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline. It also affects blood pressure, muscle spasms and heart function, even increases the body's immunity, because it participates in the formation of antibodies. Vitamin B6 deficiency causes an increase in homocysteine in the blood, which contributes to damage to the walls of blood vessels by free radicals. Elevated levels of this amino acid are also one of the main risk factors for heart disease. Vitamin B6 deficiency also leads to inflammatory changes in the skin and oral mucosa.
