exGrape® SEED Grape Seed Extract is standardized to 95% polyphenols and is extracted from the seeds of white Vitis vinifera grapes harvested exclusively in Champagne – the French province famous for its long tradition of winemaking and cultivation of top-quality grapes. We guarantee the possibility of complete verification of 100% French origin, from raw material to finished extract.

exGrape® SEED Grape Seed Extract, in addition to a full spectrum of polyphenols, also guarantees a high content of at least 30% oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC).

What are oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC)?

Oligomeric proanthocyanidins, better known as OPCs, are compounds belonging to the class of polyphenols found in significant amounts in grapes, and most abundantly in their seeds. They are combinations of catechin and epicatechin units (monomers), containing from two to a maximum of several monomers – mainly dimers and trimers. Thanks to the polyphenol structure, and thus numerous –OH groups present in the molecule, OPCs have unique antioxidant properties, effectively neutralizing free radicals and exerting a beneficial, health-promoting effect on the body.

How is exGrape® SEED extract obtained?

exGrape® SEED extract is obtained under mild extraction conditions and without the use of toxic solvents, thus preserving all the properties of its active ingredients. The extract is natural and comes 100% from grapes – it contains no carriers, preservatives or other artificial additives.

95% or maybe 30%... So what is the actual OPC content in the extract?

Manufacturers of many dietary supplements based on grape seed extract declare a very high OPC content in their products, reaching up to 95%. In reality, however, such a high standardization for OPC is not achievable. So where did the mythical 95% come from?

Some conceptual confusion has crept into the discussion about OPCs. OPCs, or oligomeric proanthocyanidins, are compounds that constitute a class of a broader group of compounds called polyphenols. In addition to oligomeric proanthocyanidins, this group also includes other compounds, including monomeric catechins and epicatechins. The information about 95% OPC content found on some products is misleading because it actually refers to the sum of all polyphenols, and not only to OPCs, which constitute one of their fractions.

The exGrape® SEED extract in our product contains a minimum of 30% OPC and a total polyphenol content of 95%.
