MikroTik TG-BT5-OUT is an external , small and intelligent Bluetooth tag designed for MikroTik KNOT series or other asset tracking, IoT telemetry devices.

It has built-in temperature sensors and an accelerometer and a 550 mAh battery . Supports telemetry formats like iBeacon, Eddystone and MikroTik . Perfect for tracking inventory indoors.

TG-BT5-OUT is a new addition to MikroTik hardware. A Bluetooth tag is a very small gadget that can be attached to other equipment. Bluetooth tags play a huge role in IoT topologies where Bluetooth is used to transmit data over short distances. Bluetooth tags can be used to track various objects based on proximity. Once installed and configured, the tag will broadcast advertising packets in iBeacon, Eddystone, or Mikrotik telemetry (default packet format) to a gateway (for example, KNOT). These packets contain the MAC address used for identification, as well as telemetry data – such as acceleration, tilt and battery level. The gateway then transmits the advertising packet payload to the remote server using MQTT or HTTP protocols. By default, advertising packets are sent every 5 seconds, but you can change this value to your preference. For example, if you set the interval to 1 second, the battery will typically last for 5 years. Built-in accelerometers can not only detect acceleration (motion), but also register when the device is dropped or tilted (free fall detection).

The external version of the tags has an encoded NFC MAC address and optional AES encryption . Unlike the internal version, the external tag, in addition to the accelerometer, also has a built-in temperature sensor that can be used for status monitoring. An accuracy of ±0.5°C can be very useful in cold chain logistics. TG-BT5-OUT has an improved 550 mAh battery that will last for about five years (at a sending interval of 1 second). The tag can be attached to all types of surfaces and can operate in a temperature range from -20°C to 85°C.

The outdoor version of BLE tags is completely sealed, cast in industrial-grade molds, giving it a robust IP69k protection rating . In other words, the Tag is dustproof – nothing gets inside and it is fully protected against high-pressure spray from close range at high temperatures. Perfect for industrial telemetry systems or for tracking all types of heavy equipment and materials on a construction site.

Application example:

If you have a KNOT gate in different parts of your construction site, you can use tags to locate construction tools, electrical equipment, and other resources. Simply attach the tags to the items you need - and the nearest gate will sense the tags nearby. Extremely useful in warehouse logistics – let your cargo notify you as soon as it arrives at the warehouse.

Important: After unpacking the device, the product is set to factory sleep mode. In this mode, all components are disabled and the MCU goes into the deepest sleep state. Current download is reduced to a minimum, so this is the preferred mode when the tag is stored and/or unused. To exit this mode, apply the magnet to the edge of the tag (where the magnetic switch is located) and hold it for 3-10 seconds until the LED goes out. Then the tag goes out of sleep mode and enters advertising mode.

In advertising mode, the tag will emit Bluetooth advertising packages. By default, MikroTika advertising packages are sent every 5 seconds. This can be changed in configuration mode. Entering the configuration mode is possible only from the advertising mode by applying a magnet to the magnetic switch as in the factory sleep procedure. After applying the magnet for 5-10 seconds, the LED will go out and the tag will enter configuration mode. If you apply the magnet for more than 15 seconds or do not connect to the tag using the configuration application, it will return to advertising mode.

When the device wakes up from factory sleep for the first time, it has a default configuration:

The magnet is used on the contactor to change the tag's operating modes as described above. As soon as the magnet is detected (activated reed), the LED will flash for the next 5 seconds (first 5 seconds) and then stop. It will help you determine that 5 seconds have passed and you can remove the magnet to go into configuration mode.
