Accurate sound in full spectrum
To address this complexity, Sennheiser engineers equipped the HD 490 PRO with an extremely wide, dimensional soundstage, enabling precise localisation of the mix components. Ultra-light vibrating coils ensure fast and authentic sound reproduction. The frequency response is colorless and faithful across the spectrum, and the lower range is full, accurate and clearly defined thanks to a special low frequency cylinder. Perforated grill over-ear pads reveal Sennheiser’s open design architecture that minimizes resonance and distortion. To ensure an optimal listening experience, the drivers are positioned at a slight angle, thus mimicking the typical monitor speaker setup.
Pleasure of use
An excellent pair of studio headphones must be characterized by a high level of comfort. That’s why Sennheiser engineers have put decades of experience in designing professional headsets into the HD 490 PRO. Their lightweight, ergonomic design eliminates any pressure points, as the headband does not knead sensitive parts of the head. In addition, the over-the-ear cups have a soft comfort zone patented by Sennheiser for the temples of the glasses, while providing a good seal. A patent application was also filed for the special geometry of the HD 490 PRO earmuff axles. Their design ensures that the headphones optimally adapt to the head when put on and maintain even pressure regardless of the shape of the user's head.
Two types of ear cups - different applications
“The development of the HD 490 PRO was preceded by the largest professional headphone survey we have ever conducted, in which users considered neutral and flat reference sound to be the most important feature. However, when we looked at the market data, we found that slightly warmer sound was preferred over 100% neutrality. That’s why we decided to give our customers two headphones in one product, providing two different sets of cushions that have been carefully designed to shape sound differently,” explains Dirks. Cushions designed for music production (velour) in the HD 490 PRO provide slightly warmer characteristics, allowing you to get perspective and help users with a holistic sound assessment. On the other hand, mixing ear cups (material) allow you to get a very flat, neutral sound that helps you delve into the details when you need a reference sound to finish the mix. Both types of pillows can be washed – it is both hygienic and ecological solution.
