FIIO FT1 shells are made of carefully selected American black walnut class FAS*. Smooth wood grain, characteristic of each element and delicate texture emphasize its natural beauty. This very dense lite wood also helps to effectively reduce cavity resonance and minimizes standing waves.

* Black American walnut, native to high latitude regions in North America, is known for its beautiful grain and smooth, delicate texture. It is a relatively rare, valuable wood.

⭕ Large dynamic transducer with a diameter of 60 mm

The FIIO FT1 has a newly developed large 60mm second-generation dynamic transducer, carefully designed specifically for the first closed FIIO over-ear headphones. The larger than average transducer size increases power conversion efficiency and provides a solid foundation for powerful bass. In addition, the increased size of the driver results in lower low-frequency resonance points, allowing for deeper bass, dynamic sound and overall authoritative sound.

Paper making technology, the art of sound reproduction

⭕ Paper making technology

The FIIO FT1 membrane consists mainly of carefully selected paper wood fibers, based on 90-year-old spruce wood from Northern Europe. European spruce is the highest quality raw material used in the manufacture of musical instruments and fibrous products, known for its pure sound and natural tone. Mature spruce wood from Norway undergoes a number of processes, including soaking and cooking, to produce pulp with specific parameters. To meet the acoustic strength requirements, a precise proportion of carbon fiber material is added. Then the membrane undergoes another round of baking and forming, resulting in a lightweight and durable membrane with a thickness of about 0,1 mm. To fully release the acoustic properties of nanowood fibers, lightweight PU material with high internal resistance was used for the suspension gasket, improving membrane compatibility and increasing the flexibility of low frequencies and increasing vocal density from the sound source, which provides warm, lush vocals.

FIIO FT1, in accordance with its overall acoustic design and high level of listening experience, uses a composite membrane made of nanowood* fibers. This membrane consists of carefully selected paper fibers combined with a lightweight PU (polyurethane) suspension seal. It exhibits excellent high-frequency extension and transient response, resulting in clear, precise sound with a clear imaging tone and delivers uniquely sweet, rich and dense mid-frequency vocals. This transducer works in harmony with the rest of the FT1 acoustic design, providing a specially tuned frequency response for a clean and enjoyable listening experience. It is as if the elegant aesthetics of the “paper” transducer perfectly translated into a beautiful sound.

*The FIIO FT1 nanowood fiber membrane draws inspiration from the acoustic assumptions of paper membrane speakers. Paper has unique features – warm tonality, delicate emotions and lasting charm – which other acoustic materials lack. Not surprisingly, paper membranes are still preferred for use in high-end audio products.

⭕ W-shaped suspension seal

FIIO FT1, as the first closed on-ear headphones from FIIO, are pioneers of a new generation of internal acoustic technology – W-shaped suspension seals. The 25 mm diameter vibrating coil is larger compared to similar models and has been specially optimized and tuned. Compared to typical membranes of similar size, the W-shaped membrane achieves a 25,8% increase in the effective vibration surface, which allows it to store more energy reserves. The FT1 membrane, with a hard dome and matching suspension seal, allows the 25mm diameter vibrating coil to directly drive the stiffer dome area. This configuration minimizes vibration loss between different materials and reduces distortion caused by transducer decay, allowing FT1 to deliver sophisticated sound.

⭕ Ultra-thin Japanese CCAW Vibration Coil

To ensure robust and high-quality sound, the FIIO FT1 uses a specially imported Japanese CCAW (Copper-Clad Aluminum Wire) ultra-thin vibrating coil with a diameter of up to 25 mm. The longer copper wire of the vibrating coil allows you to directly increase the efficiency of the transducer and its drive capacity, improving the transient response, thus providing a cleaner, more comfortable sound. Each single wire core in a CCAW coil has a diameter of about 0,035 mm, as thin as a hair. In addition, the FT1 vibrating coil frame uses lightweight KSV (Kapton), which also helps to significantly reduce the total weight of the membrane. The result is increased reaction speed and minimized reverberation.

FT1, as the first closed FIIO on-ear headphones, includes a number of features that specifically enhance the listening experience in a closed case. The FT1 series of sound insulation components* effectively reduces ambient noise, including external voices and ambient sounds, up to 26 dB**. As a result, there is minimal high frequency attenuation for truly high-quality HiFi sound.

FIIO FT1 is designed to provide users with a high-quality HiFi experience in a variety of usage scenarios. To achieve this, FT1 has a low impedance of 32Ω and boasts an acoustic sensitivity of 113 dB/Vrms@1kHz (equivalent to 98 dB/mW@1kHz). The part of the headband in contact with the head is made of lychee leather, which ensures soft contact and comfortable wear.
