• Conventional helmets are tested by dropping them vertically onto a hard surface. They are designed to protect against straight/radial impacts. For more than 15 years, MIPS has been studying how people get into accidents in the real world. • CONEHEAD™ is a revolutionary EPS foam forming method that enhances the impact properties of helmets. The helmet is molded in two stages and has two parts in two different densities, with a unique conical interface.

• Two different foam densities were used in the production, including in terms of deformation characteristics after impact and bond strength between them. In the event of an accident, the force of impact towards the head causes the cones to squeeze, creating forces spreading sideways through an outer foam layer with a higher density. The impact energy/force is absorbed by this transverse movement. At the same time, the head moves in the opposite direction, squeezing the base of the lower density cones and slowing down the accelerating head. The result is a lower G-force experience for your head.
