Powerful 10Gbps and Layer 3 Routing solution for enterprise networks

PLANET SGS-6310 is a new Gigabit Layer 3 managed switch with 10Gbps uplink capability for different types of network applications and flexible deployment. The SGS-6310-16S8C4XR features 24 100/1000BASE-X SFP ports and 8 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ45 copper ports, shared with 1-8 ports, as well as 4 1G/10GBASE-X SFP+ ports with 128Gb/s switching fiber in a rugged 1U chassis.

The SGS-6310 series provides high performance, static routing Layer 3 IPv4/IPv6, dynamic routing capability RIP and OSPF, ERPS ring, rich L2/L4 switching motor and in-stack virtual switch technology to meet the heavy transmission needs of all applications. It gives enterprises, service providers and campuses flexible control over port density, uplinks and switch stack performance at an affordable price.

High performance 10Gbps Ethernet

The four SFP+ ports built into the SGS-6310 feature a high-performance switch architecture that is capable of providing a non-blocking switch structure and bandwidth of up to 80Gbps, greatly simplifying the task of upgrading your LAN to meet your growing bandwidth needs. Each SFP+ port supports Dual-Speed, 10GBASE-SR/LR or 1000BASE-SX/LX, which means that the administrator can flexibly select the appropriate SFP/SFP+ transceiver depending on the distance or transmission speed required for efficient network expansion.

Centralized management of the hardware stack

Two 10G SFP+ ports can be configured to connect several SGS-6310 series to build a virtually logical object. The SGS-6310 series with stackable capability, suitable for enterprises, service providers and telecommunications companies, provides high port density, high uplink throughput and high switch stack performance, giving you great flexibility for different application requirements. The SGS-6310 series can connect as a ring for redundancy and ensures that data integrity is preserved even if one switch in the stack fails. Switches can be replaced without interrupting network operation, which greatly simplifies LAN upgrades to meet growing bandwidth needs.

Redundant ring, fast recovery for critical network applications

The SGS-6310 series supports redundant ring technology and is characterized by strong, fast self-healing capability to prevent interruptions and external intrusions. The SGS-6310 uses advanced ITU-T G.8032 ERPS (Ethernet Ring Protection Switching) and Spanning Tree Protocol (802.1s MSTP) technology to increase system reliability and uptime in harsh environments. In a simple ring network, the recovery time can be less than 10 ms to quickly restore the network to normal operation.

Support for Layer 3 routing

SGS-6310 enables an administrator to conveniently increase network performance by manually configuring Layer 3 static routing, automatic configuration of RIP (Routing Information Protocol) or OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) settings.

The RIP protocol can use the number of hops as a routing metric and prevent routing loops by restricting the number of hops allowed in the path from source to destination.

OSPF is an internal dynamic routing protocol for a standalone system based on the state of the link. The protocol creates a link state database by exchanging link states between Layer 3 switches, and then uses the Shortest Path First algorithm to generate a route table based on that database.

Strong multicast

SGS-6310 supports many multicast functions. At Layer 2, it has IPv4 IGMPv1/v2/v3 snooping and IPv6 MLD v1 snooping. With Multicast VLAN Register (MVR), multicast receiver/sender control and illegal multicast source detect, the SGS-6310 series is great for any solid network.

Full IPv6 support

SGS-6310 supports IPv4-to-IPv6 technologies, including IPv4 manual/automatic tunnel, IPv6-to-IPv4 tunnel and ISATAP (Intra-Site Automatic Tunnel Addressing Protocol) tunnel. It comprehensively supports IPv6 Neighbor Discovery, DHCPv6, Path MTU Discovery, IPv6-based Telnet, SSH and ACL, meeting the needs of IPv6 network device management and service control.

Solid Layer 2 features

The SGS-6310 series can be programmed for basic switch management functions such as port speed configuration, port aggregation, VLAN, Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol, bandwidth control and IGMP snooping. This switch provides 802.1Q tagged VLAN, Q-in-Q, voice VLAN and GVRP Protocol functions. With support for port link aggregation, the SGS-6310 series enables high-speed trunking connected to multiple ports. It allows you to create up to 64 groups for trunking with up to 8 ports for each group.

Excellent motion control from Layer 2 to Layer 4

The SGS-6310 is equipped with powerful traffic management and WRR capabilities that streamline the services offered by enterprises. WRR features include Layer 4 traffic classification and bandwidth limitation, which is especially useful for multi-tenant unit, multi-business unit, Telco or network service applications. It also enables enterprises to take full advantage of limited network resources and guarantees the best VoIP and video conferencing.

Powerful network security

SGS-6310 offers comprehensive access control lists (ACLs) from Layer 2 to Layer 4 to ensure edge security. It can be used to restrict network access by rejecting packets based on source and destination IP addresses, TCP/UDP ports, or defined common network applications. The protection mechanism also includes port-based 802.1x and MAC-based authentication, which can be implemented with RADIUS to ensure port-level security and block illegal users.

Advanced IP network protection

SGS-6310 also has DHCP Snooping, IP Source Guard and Dynamic ARP Inspection features that prevent IP snooping attacks and reject ARP packets with an invalid MAC address. Network administrators can now build highly secure enterprise networks with significantly less time and effort than before.

Efficient and secure management

For efficient management, the SGS-6310 series is equipped with console, Web and SNMP management interfaces.

• With its built-in Web-based management interface, the SGS-6310 series offers easy-to-use, platform-agnostic management and configuration.
• Text management can be accessed through Telnet and the console port. In order to reduce product learning time, the SGS-6310 series offers Cisco-like commands and the customer does not need to learn new commands from these switches.
• For standard monitoring and management software, SGS-6310 offers an SNMPv3 connection that encrypts packet contents during each session for secure remote management.

In addition, the SGS-6310 series offers secure remote management through support for SSHv1/v2 and TLSv1.2 connections, which encrypts packet contents in each session.
