The boiler is factory blackened, i.e. fired in fat, which provides cast iron impregnation and protects against food sticking.

Before first use, the pot should be washed with a sponge or brush in hot water without the use of detergents.

As part of maintenance, from time to time it is advisable to rub the dish with edible fat (animal fat or oil) to prevent complete degreasing of the pot walls.

The lack of a preservative coating promotes food sticking, degreasing can cause discoloration or rust.
