With the launch of the DALI OBERON speaker series, we have selected the best elements from our current speakers and combined them into a series that delivers excellent sound quality, sleek design and versatility.

With the OBERON 5, you can easily integrate your loudspeakers into any room, as both the transducer design materials and the geometry used in the OBERON 5 have been selected to achieve wide sound dispersion in the listening area. The same principles were applied when designing the crossover.

As a result, you can experience well-integrated sound, even when listening at a significant off-axis angle. This is important because when listening to music, you rarely sit directly in front of the speaker. An additional benefit is a significant reduction in harmonic distortion and frequency distortion, as they will always be stronger when listening on the axis. This is also the reason why all DALI speakers are designed so that they do not require setting at an angle directly to the listener.

Tweeter

The new ultra-light tweeter with a soft dome with a diameter of 29 mm, used in the OBERON 5, was manufactured by DALI and developed specifically for the OBERON series - combining proven technologies from our existing DALI series with new functionalities.

This oversized 29 mm diaphragm is built on the basis of an ultra-light braid and has been further optimized for greater bandwidth in the frequency area. This ensures optimal midrange driver-tweeter interoperability, creating a balanced, effortless and highly consistent upper midrange. Compared to most soft dome tweeters on the market, the DALI dome material is lighter than half the weight of competing designs (0,060 mg/mm2).

The large size of the diaphragm means that the tweeter generates higher sound pressure with less tilt, limiting the movement of the coil to a strictly defined minimum.

The front plate surrounding the tweeter is designed with similar geometry as the drivers on the OPTICON and RUBICON models to create optimal working conditions for the soft dome. The goal is to combine extended frequency response with wide dispersion and low coloration.

Housing

The housing of the OBERON 5 loudspeaker is made of high-density MDF, CNC machined - upholstered with carefully selected, high-quality vinyl. The OBERON 5 housing uses a very stable construction with solid stiffeners on the inside of the housing for reinforcement. This contributes to rigidity and virtually eliminates resonance in the housing.

To optimize time synchronization, the speakers are equipped with acoustic damping material inside the housing along the sides, top and bottom - but not on the inside of the front wall. This creates a more direct contact between the woofer and the bass port. As a result, we obtained more precise bass and increased "attack" in the midrange range.

The bass ports are located in the back of the OBERON 5 speaker housing, optimizing integration into the room, and using the wall to improve bass performance.

With the OBERON series, DALI presents a completely new design for the front grill. The new rounded front grill adds a lighter and more modern look to the speaker series. "Mountain Grey" is a standard grill supplied with light finishes (White and Light Oak), and "Shadow Black" is standard with dark finishes (Black Ash and Dark Walnut). For a completely white look, the "Marshmallow White" grill is also available as an accessory.

The elegantly shaped aluminum base gives the OBERON 5 floorstanding loudspeaker a lighter look.

Modern, lightweight design

The rounded edges and rustic material used to cover the front grills of the DALI give the OBERON series a lighter and more modern look. This appearance is enhanced by the elegantly shaped aluminum base used in the two models of floor columns.

Patented SMC technology

The use of SMC technology in the OBERON 5 significantly reduces mechanical distortion caused by hysteresis and eddy currents. These combined improvements in the magnetic drive system result in a significant reduction in mechanical distortion. This allows the OBERON 5 to deliver a pleasant listening experience for an extended period of time, offering a relaxing midrange and a surprising amount of detail in its price class.

The magnetic drive consists of a large ferrite magnet that surrounds the diaphragm made of a unique combination of iron and SMC. Using iron ferrite to form the base of the diaphragm, we obtain the advantage that the negative effect of iron is minimized, leaving a 10 mm SMC disk in the peritoneum environment, placing it exactly in the middle of the working zone of the 4-layer coil. This placement ensures maximum effect of using SMC in the coil operating environment, resulting in a much more stable magnetic field.
