Choose the Right Strength

When drilling into metal, it is very easy to break the drill bit, especially if we use a small diameter drill bit. To protect yourself against this, let the drill freely choose the material without applying excessive force. A sharp drill should handle it calmly. Over time, of course, it will blunt, but you do not have to throw it in the trash and buy a new one. You can sharpen them yourself with a table grinder or give them to sharpen in the workshop.

Mark the point

It is good to make drilling easier by pricking the point where you will embed the tip of the drill. Thanks to this, it will not slip all over the material. This solution is especially important when the surface around the hole is to remain intact. Thanks to the punctured point, you can make a hole very precisely. Special points are designed for puncturing, with which you can do it easily, quickly and efficiently, but if you do not have it, then nothing is lost. You might as well do it with a screwdriver or a small drill and hammer.

Drill carefully

Even if you have marked the right point, there is still a risk that the drill will slip off the material, so it is important to start slowly. You will need a drill with smooth rotation adjustment so that you can gradually, as the drill digs in, increase the rotation speed. If necessary, use a coolant, e.g. cooling oil, or drilling emulsion.
