Fjällräven Kånken is a classic and fundamental small city/touring backpack from the Swedish manufacturer. It was created in 1978, and its reputation is best demonstrated by the 400 units sold then (compared to the projected 200), reaching nearly 30,000 units sold the following year. However, it took several more years to achieve its classic status.

The whole idea arose from addressing the increasing spinal problems in society, unfortunately affecting children and young people more and more frequently. The cause of the growing problem was identified as the then-popular single-shoulder bags, along with a lack of exercise. Thus, Kånken was created as a healthy alternative: a backpack that is extremely simple, yet very durable, aesthetically pleasing, and functional. Furthermore, it is made from eco-friendly materials, with particular attention to the environment. There were also controversies - many considered Kånken a symbol of liberal political views and called it a communist hump. Nevertheless, Fjällräven continued production, and for over 50 years, in almost unchanged form, it has been loved, and its interesting look and timeless design make it the choice of many.

It works well in school, college, work, but also on a trip out of town or when traveling. Most of the necessary items can be packed into the main compartment with a wide opening - you can easily fit a notebook, wallet, jacket and other small items, and smaller items that must always be at hand will find their place in the zippered front pocket. In the main compartment, there is also an additional compartment with a foam mat (Seat Pad), the purpose of which is primarily to stiffen the backpack, but we can also easily remove it and sit on it on the trail or on a bench. The Kånken backpack has two side pockets, which can hold a water bottle or an umbrella. If we want, we can also turn it into a practical bag - just fasten the straps together and carry it using the top handles.

Vinylon F is the material from which Fjällräven produces its most popular backpack, the Kånken. It is a synthetic material, but it has many characteristics of a natural material. Unlike other fabrics, it does not need to be covered with an additional layer of polyurethane or silicone to ensure its water resistance, which means that the production of backpacks has less of a negative impact on the environment. Vinylon F is also a durable material, and at the same time softer than the classic G-1000 used, for example, in Kånken No.2 backpacks.
