Where to find the engine designation?

  • Rated plate: It is usually located in the engine compartment, on one of the cups (often right, i.e. on the left looking from the front of the car).
  • Sticker: Also check the stickers on the threshold (e.g. on the passenger side) or in the trunk, e.g. at the spare wheel.
  • Engine block/timing cover: In some cases, the marking may be stamped directly on the engine block or on the timing cover.
  • After decoding the VIN number: Some online VIN decoders allow you to read the engine designation in a given vehicle
  • Service book: Engine designation is often given on the vehicle data sticker (e.g. date of manufacture, color code) attached to the service book.
