Bentonite clay is usually gray, white, greenish or yellowish in color, unscented and tasteless. The main component of clay is montmorillonite from the group of silicates. It also contains other minerals: calcium, magnesium, potassium, silicon, manganese, iron, aluminum, copper, sodium and zinc.

Bentonite clay has adsorption properties, moistened binds molecules of other substances on itself and leads to their thickening. It attracts and absorbs toxins and heavy metals. For this reason, it is used not only for the production of hygienic litter for cats but also for the treatment of contaminated soil or as an additive in animal feed, preventing infection with aflotoxins. Bentonite has also been used in the food industry as a thickener and anti-caking agent (designated E558). It is also a component of some antacids. Bentonite clay is also used in cosmetology to cleanse the skin and relieve irritation.
