Active carbon is an elemental form of carbon, characterized by very high porosity. Thanks to the existence of an extensive network of pores, such carbon has a very large specific surface area (even over 3000 m2/g). Such carbon activation is carried out by subjecting carbon to high temperature with limited air access.

Thanks to such an extensive surface, activated carbon has excellent adsorption properties (adsorbent) and is able to surface bond and neutralize many substances. In addition, as an adsorbent, it has also been used in cosmetics (skin cleansing masks), in hygiene products (whitening toothpastes) or in many other areas as a filtering agent (e.g. in aquaristics).

Origin of activated carbon

Many products on the market are based on low-quality, technical activated carbon obtained from charcoal or fossil coal, which is not intended for consumption purposes, but for industrial or technical applications. Due to the low purity class of the carbon used, they may contain harmful substances. The safest source of pure activated carbon for consumption is coconut shells.

Active carbon Aliness is obtained from coconut shells, intended as an ingredient in dietary supplements. It comes from a leading European supplier and is manufactured in one of its production facilities located in Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia.
