NEW GENERATION OF ANTIOXIDANTS:

For the first time ever, the effect of a natural dietary supplement on changes in markers of oxidative and nitrosative stress (free radicals) in humans has been clinically studied. At the same time, elevated nitric oxide levels and metabolic activity of cells were documented. In a cross-over, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, the effects of a single dose of Spectra™ on humans were tested and Spectra™ was shown to reduce free radical concentrations and their production for 3 hours after admission (Figure 1).

Oxygen is a key component for human life. It is responsible for hundreds of tasks in the body, and one of the most important is energy production. Energy production in the body is carried out by combining glucose with oxygen, which results in the production of ATP molecules, which are the basic energy carrier at the cellular level. Free radicals are a byproduct of this conversion. The production of free radicals can cause local inflammation, which can be observed especially during physical exercise – the free radicals formed then can cause inflammation in the muscles, leading to their damage. Spectra™ has been shown to reduce the direct correlation between increased oxygen consumption and free radical production by increasing cellular (Figure 3) and mitochondrial (Figure 4) oxygen consumption while minimizing free radical formation (ROS).
