Using the fan
When you connect the fan, it will be turned on by default whenever the Raspberry Pi is running. You can configure it to turn on only when the Raspberry Pi reaches the selected temperature.
Using the latest version of Raspberry Pi OS, first update to download all recent changes to your operating system:
- Open Terminal, either from the Start menu (click the Raspberry Pi icon in the upper left corner) or by pressing Control + Alt + T.
- Type sudo apt update, and when the update is complete, type sudo apt full-upgrade.
Then open the Raspberry Pi configuration tool:
- Click the Raspberry Pi icon in the upper left corner and select Preferences, then Configure Raspberry Pi.
- Select the Performance tab.
- Next to Fan click Enabled.
- If you connected the fan as shown above, the default value of 14 for the fan GPIO does not need to be changed.
- Select the fan temperature at which you want to turn on the fan. The default value is 80 ° C, which will stop the throttling of the Raspberry Pi during difficult tasks without constantly turning on the fan.
